Dr. Adriana Ortiz-Ortega, Chair of the Department of Gender, Diversity and Inclusion from the Students Affairs Office, and Saúl Armendáriz Sánchez, Coordinator of the UNAM Joint Library of Earth Sciences (BCCT), share their research which aims to combine gender studies with bibliometrics to show their key role in the understanding of dynamism of science and its importance in the economic development of Mexico and the world.
Adriana Ortiz-Ortega is part of the National Researchers System, Coordinator of the Master’s Program in Public Policy at the Instituto Universitario y de Investigación Ortega y Gasset and President of Cincuenta y Uno por Ciento AC. Also, she is a Member of the Network for Political Scientists, Women in Plural and the International Political Science Association.
As well as being BBCT’s coordinator, Saúl Armendáriz Sánchez is an alumnus of the National School of Library and Archival Science and got his Master’s from the Division of Graduate Studies of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the UNAM. He has received numerous awards, including the “Library Service Award” for his adaptation to the development of services in the information units of Mexico’s Higher Education Institutions.
Their research, called Multidisciplinary Approaches to Science and Gender ,stands out as the discipline of bibliometrics that provides elements to understand the development, presence, impact and cooperation between the players to produce science in different parts of the world. This way, the areas with more scientific production in Mexico can be identified and compare them with other regions.
