ITAM celebrates the success of two mexican students in the 7th edition of the International Economics Olympiad, that took place in Hong Kong in july 30th. Rodrigo Hernández de la Cruz, current ITAM student, won the silver medal, while Viktor Chargoy Espino, won the bronze medal.

ITAM: leader in the preparation of students for international competitions
Rodrigo Hernández and Víktor Chargoy where selected during the 2024 Mexican Economics and Finance Olympiad , hosted at ITAM during march and april of this year. Professors from ITAM’s Social Sciences and Business departments played and important role in the preparation of the students, by providing the necessary tools to stand out in the international competition.
The IEO objetctives are: to contribute to the understanding of Economics and Finance among high school level students all around the world, promote the friendly exchange among international students and develop creative abilities and problem solving among young people.

Mexican team at the 2024 International Economic Olympiad
The mexican team that participated in the 2024 International Economics Olympiad was formed by five highschool students: Rodrigo Hernández, alumnus of Prepa Tec; Viktor Chargoy, of the Oriente Institute Puebla; Eduardo Iván Martínez, of the Colegio Indoamericano ; Maribel Romero, of the Prepa Anahuac Campus Oxford, and Mauricio Sebastián Salinas Sánchez, of the American School Foundation of Monterrey. This team was advised by Dr. Christina Cornejo Van Luit from the Department of Economics at ITAM and Dr. Fernando Pérez Cervantes, Director of the Financial Management Undergraduate Program at ITAM.

ITAM: host of the Mexican Economics and Finance Olympiad
ITAM has hosted the Mexican Economics and Finance Olympiad for three consecutive editions. From this competition, the team that will represent Mexico in the International Economics Olympiad is selected. During these editions, ITAM not only hosts the participants from all over Mexico, but prepares them also with a high-level academic focus to assure their success in international competitions.
The Mexican Economics and Finance Olympiad is the Mexican chapter of the International Economics Olympiad (IEO), that is an international competition for high school students on Economics and Finance, supported by Eric Maskin, Harvard professor and Nobel Laureate.

Besides, in 2023, Agustín Carstens, ITAM alumnus and current Director of the Bank for International Settlements, donated the funds that came with the Rey de España Economy Prize to support the teams representing Mexico in future editions of the International Economics Olympiad.
