During the 2024 Economic Perspective Seminar, Carlos Slim gave a keynote lecture on investment during the current economic reality.

In terms of investment opportunities in Mexico, Carlos Slim provided a panoramic view of the historical development of the country, dividing it in four important stages covering from the Revolution to the capitalism and globalization.

He also noted the urgent need of slowing down migration through the development of the mexican southeast, pointing out the crucial importance of investment and employment generation. Likewise, he stressed on the idea of increasing the acquisitive power of the population through the increment of the minimum wage and the search of a minimum level of welfare and equality of opportunities.

In summation, the key proposals revolve around boosting the investment, strengthening the economy and improving the wellbeing of the population, with the objective of positioning Mexico within the global competition.

“The government has to take care of the population’s wellbeing so that equality exists within the mexican society. I’m going to criticize many concepts: when we speak of equality, I’m sorry, but that is nonsense. This is not about equality, its about a minimum level of wellbeing. It’s not about being identical, but to have the same opportunities and securities ”, Slim added.

What does Mexico need to reach the top 7 major economies in the world? “It’s necessary to invest more and boost the economy and going back to a unity without confrontations like the one in the first stage of development, during the Revolution; to jointly work with the US, and Canada, and with whoever is appropriate form South America and, of course, Central America” Carlos Slim, noted.
