Jorge Álvarez Máynez visited ITAM to meet with students

In the framework of the 2024 presidential election the Alonso Lujambio Center of Studies (CEAL) invited the candidatures for presidency of the Republic to hold a dialogue table with ITAM’s university community. The first attendee to this invitation was Jorge Álvarez Máynez, who, before a huge amount of press and students, had a dialogue at the Raul Bailleres Auditorium with the student body.

The event opened with a speech from Horacio Vives, head of the Student’s Affairs Office, in which he highlighted the importance of having these dialogue spaces to encourage citizens participation. After having introduced the table participants, the session began.

The candidate´s main proposals.

Máynez objective is to “build a new Mexico: a Mexico of equals, a Mexico with justice and a Mexico with prosperity and opportunities for everyone and, above all, and for the good of all, children first.”. In Máynez own words, the “new Mexico” is an invitation to leave behind the discussion between “past and past” (the 70s polarizing past and a “how we were 15 years ago” past) and an invitation to see the future.

One of the main proposals is the creation of an early childhood system that brings equality of opportunities to boys and girls all around the country in health, education and other issues. The program will start with infants and progressively increase the ages of the participants, as the fund raising improves, obtained through reforms to the Tax Administration Services (SAT), the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) and the National Workers’ Housing Fund Institute (INFONAVIT), among others.

Likewise, he proposed a change in the national security strategy, to intervene in public prosecutors’ offices to provide them with technological tools to facilitate this change (taking care not to turn these tools into punitive technologies). To aid decrease inequality in terms of access to justice by providing improved tools to public prosecutors offices.
